Emy said: Another question, we put various cuts of drywall up our stairwell and it wahard to get it one smooth piece because of all the different angles, now that we've mudded it and primed and painted, the seams are horribly visible especially with the hall light.. can I re-mud over the paint to widen the seams ?

ANSWER: emy, Yes, you can always go over the top with more compound. I would recommend buffing up the paint just a little with fine grit sand paper. In your case, you might want to place a thin coat of mud on each side of the joint, let this dry, and then bridge the two coats, as shown at http://www.drywallinfo.com/butt_joints.html . Then put more side coats on to make this joint even wider. Make sure to use a trouble light held at a low angle to inspect - this will prevent surprises after all is painted and shiny.

Jim said: I have some places in my workshop where a drywall wall meets a plywood wall. How would you finish the joint where they meet? Does drywall mud work on plywood seams or what should I use where two sheets of plywood meeet?

ANSWER: Jim, You can tape from drywall to wood, but you would have a tough time finishing on the plywood side due to its rough surface. I think the joint would look odd as is would have a smooth look tapering onto the rough plywood surface. If the plywood is perfectly smooth you could - I have taped an finished drywall joined to smooth paneling. I think your better option if the plywood is rough at all would be to finish your drywall and plywood separately with paneling moulding over the seam.

Richard said: How do i fix a hole left in my wall from duct work used for a pallet stove?

ANSWER: Richard, The procedure at http://www.drywallinfo.com/holerepair.html should work for you. If the hole is not a seam at all, no taping is needed. A hole in the middle of a sheet will not produce a crack. If on a seam, you should tape along the edges. At any rate, you will want plywood strips underneath to fasten a patch on.

Cedar said: How do you repair hole in the ceiling thats on a corner? The hole in the ceiling intersects with the verticle wall. I see a problem making the tape in the corner seemless. Because there is tape on the wall corner.

ANSWER: Cedar, You would repair using a procedure similar to http://www.drywallinfo.com/holerepair.html or http://www.drywallinfo.com/drywall-repair-videos.html depending on your hole size. Make sure there is solid backing where the patch attaches. You could tape over existing tape, making sure all loose tape is first removed. In an inside corner, the joint does not protrude up, so you could finish the corner off by blending into the rest of the corner, going over the top of the existing tape. It should look OK. And yes, you should tape this corner where the patch is since this is on a joint.
